The Scenic Route

The Scenic Route, 39 × 54 in.
Mixed media on canvas
The Scenic Route explores the relationship between gesture, material, and spatial tension through a layered abstract composition. Translucent passages of blue, blush, cream, ochre, and muted green are interrupted by graphite-like marks, scraped surfaces, and concentrated areas of saturated color.
The work moves between softness and disruption, with overlapping forms creating shifting points of focus across the canvas. Its varied surface and irregular visual rhythm encourage a slower reading, revealing subtle transitions, buried marks, and moments of contrast over time.
Rather than resolving into a singular image, The Scenic Route remains intentionally open-ended—an exploration of movement, interruption, and the unexpected paths that emerge through the process of making.
